Lloyd “Fuzzy” Coverdell

Lloyd Coverdell was born February 27, 1915, in Murphy, Oklahoma, to Noah Nathaniel and Dora (Drury) Coverdell.  He departed this life Monday, January 31, 2005, near Topsey, Oklahoma, at the age of 89 years, 11 months, and 4 days.

Lloyd, who was known by all as “Fuzzy”, grew up and attended schools in the Murphy, Oklahoma area.  As a child, he attended the Murphy Church of God.  Mr. Coverdell served in the United States Army during World War II.

He worked most of his life as a construction laborer.  “Fuzzy” was currently living near Topsey, Oklahoma.  He had lived there and in the Jay and Eucha areas for the last several years.  He had also lived in Chouteau and Disney.  As well, “Fuzzy” lived in California for many years.  He was a strong man and a hard worker.

Mr. Coverdell is survived by: 1 son: Stan Coverdell and wife Melody of Colton, California; 1 step-son: Vernon Coverdell; several grandchildren including: Bill Coverdell and wife Kelly of Conyers, Georgia, Paul Coverdell and wife Lisa of Colton, California, and Denise Hill-Sherwood of Lake Havasu City, Arizona; several great grandchildren including: Paris Lynn Coverdell, Preston Joseph Coverdell, and Michael Antonio Coverdell; 1 step-sister: Geneva Bauer Meister of Gravois Mill, Missouri; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; 1 son: Darrell; 1 daughter: Sharrell; and 3 sisters: Grace Marrow, Myrtle McClung, and Lucy Ross.

Graveside services were held at 1:00 P.M., Monday, February 7, 2005, at the Fort Gibson National Cemetery.  Services were entrusted to the Locust Grove Funeral Home.
