Gene Nicholson

Eugene “Gene” W. Nicholson was born January 9, 1928, in Woodfort County, Kentucky, to Eugene and Susan (McIntosh) Nicholson.  He passed from this life on Thursday, March 17, 2005, in Locust Grove, at the age of 77 years, 2 months, and 8 days.

As a young boy, Gene attended schools in Kentucky.  He served his country in the United States Army, receiving a Purple Heart for his heroic actions in the Korean War.  He was married to Nola Ruth Littlefield in 1949.  She preceded him in death in 1984.

Gene was a resident of Locust Grove for over 55 years, having moved here in 1950.   Mr. Nicholson was a member of the New Hogan Free Will Baptist Church.  There, you could always find him cleaning the church and the front porch.  Gene had also been a member of the Masonic Lodge and the VFW.  He retired as a maintenance electrician for McDonnel Douglas in 1984. On August 7, 1988, Gene and Elsie (Burchett) Williams were joined in marriage.  

Gene loved to go fishing.  He enjoyed listening to bluegrass music, and most of all, he loved spending time with his grandchildren and attending church.    

He is survived by: his wife:  Elsie of the home; 2 sons:  Landon Nicholson and wife Lorene of Brownsville, Texas and Eric Nicholson of Nebraska; 1 step-son:  Kermit Williams and wife Helen of Locust Grove, Oklahoma; 1 step-daughter:  Margaret Thomas and husband Bob of Rose, Oklahoma; 3 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; 8 step-grandchildren; 21 step-great-grandchildren; 1 step-great-great-grandchild; 3 brothers:  Johnny Nicholson of Kentucky, Jerry Nicholson and wife Dee of Kentucky, and Charles Nicholson of Locust Grove, Oklahoma; 2 sisters:  Joyce Wharhie of Illinois and Ruth Whalen of Maryland.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife; 1 infant daughter; 1 step-son: Herman Ray Williams and wife Mary; 1 grandson: Aaron Nicholson; 1 step-granddaughter: Twilla (Thomas) Connor; 1 brother: Gilbert Nicholson; and 1 sister:  Kathleen Lafoe.

Funeral services were held 2:00 P.M., Saturday, March 19, 2005, at the New Hogan Free Will Baptist Church of Locust Grove.  Reverend Jim Stokes and Reverend Jerry Troglin officiated.  Interment followed at Graham Cemetery in Pryor.  Services were entrusted to the Locust Grove Funeral Home.
