Dennis Robert O’Dell, Sr

Dennis Robert O’Dell, Sr. was born October 28,1941, in Teaneck, New Jersey, to Nicholas Bogerman and Elizabeth Jane (DeMarzo) O’Dell. He departed this life with loved ones by his side on Sunday, July 24, 2005, at his home in Rose, Oklahoma, at the age of 63 year, 8 months, and 26 days.

Dennis grew up in and attended school in Park Ridge, New Jersey. He later moved to Chester, New York where he resided for the next thirty years. While there, he built his own log cabin home on Kings Highway. He worked as an owner/operator driving trucks and opened his own business called SUGAR LOAF MOUNTAIN GARDEN SUPPLY. He remained self employed until moving to Rose, Oklahoma in July 2002.

Dennis was a man very well grounded in his faith in God and he greatly valued all living things. He was exceptionally strong physically, mentally and spiritually. Dennis was a relatively simple man, at times, to the point of crude. His actions spoke louder than words and he was known to be honest, generous and fair.

Dennis was knowledgeable about many things, however, he excelled with mechanics of all kinds and could fix or modify anything. He enjoyed fishing whenever he could make the time to go. He had a great fondness for old steam trains, particularly the Union Pacific Big Boy 4-8-8-4.  He was loved dearly and will be greatly missed.

Dennis is survived by: 5 children: Dennis Robert O’Dell Jr. and wife Lisa Marie of Locust Grove, Oklahoma, Robert Everett O’Dell and wife Lisa Marie of Rose, Oklahoma, Ann-Marie Denise Pierce and husband Ronald Lee of Rose, Oklahoma, Ginny Lynn Raith and husband Nathan Timothy of Rose, Oklahoma, and Nicholas Allen O’Dell and wife Lea Michelle of Tahlequah, Oklahoma; 2 brothers: Norman Anthony O’Dell of Verplanck, New York and Arthur Douglas (Corky) O’Dell of Verplanck, New York; 3 sisters: Barbara Ann Sisco of Peekskill, New York, June Audrey O’Dell of Verplanck, New York, and Linda Sue O’Dell of Honesdale, Pennsylvania; 16 grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends;

Dennis was preceded in death by; his parents; 1 brother: Harold William O’Dell; and 1 grandson: Nicholas B. O’Dell.

Graveside services were held 11:00 A.M., Monday, July 25, 2005, at the Rose Cemetery.  Chaplain Bill Holcomb of Trinity Hospice officiated.  Services were entrusted to the Locust Grove Funeral Home.
