Obituary for

Gerald Dan “Pete” Tomblin

Funeral services for Gerald Dan "Pete" Tomblin, 70, of Peggs, were held Tuesday, July 27, 1999, at 2pm at the Peggs Community Church. Rev. Rex Hendrickson and Rev. Max Harvey officiated. Interment followed in the Peggs Cemetery, with military honors provided by the Grove Veterans Ritual Team. Services were under the direction of Locust Grove Funeral Home.

Mr. Tomblin was born March 8, 1929, in the Hogan Community, west of Locust Grove, to David Leroy and Inez (Holman) Tomblin. He departed this life on Friday, July 23, 1999, at the V.A. Medical Center in Muskogee.

He grew up in the Locust Grove area, and married Dorothy June Chance on March 7, 1951, in Bentonville, Arkansas. He loved her dearly, as she loved him, for over 48 years. They made their home southeast of Peggs, where they raised 4 children.

He served in the US Air Force for 20 years, retiring a Master Sergeant in January, 1970. His foreign duty tours included Austria, 3 separate tours in Japan, and Vietnam in 1967-68. He was also stationed in Texas for many years. In addition to the numerous honors he earned serving our country, Master Sergeant Tomblin also received the Medal of Honor from the government of the people of South Vietnam. He held the National Security Agency's highest secret security clearance.

He returned to the Peggs area in 1970, coming from Sheppard AFB, Wichita Falls, Texas. In his civilian life he studied Free Masonry and became a Master Mason. He had been a member of Covey Masonic Lodge #460 in Locust Grove. In his retirement, he also enjoyed fishing, taking walks, and working on small engines. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren, whom he dearly loved.

He is survived by his wife Dorothy of the home; 3 sons, Daniel Tomblin and wife Kathy of Peggs, Gregory Tomblin of the home, and Jeffrey Tomblin and wife Kimberly of Peggs; 1 daughter, Regina Tomblin of the home; 1 sister, Betty Larson and husband Phillip of Knoxville, Tennessee; 2 grandsons, David E. Tomblin and Jeffrey A. Tomblin; and 3 granddaughters, Kelli, Carla, and Darla Tomblin; as well as many other relatives and special friends.
